Zbigniew Brzezinski
A Historically Relevant Foreign Policy
Dr. Brzezinski, the former National Security Adviser to President Carter,
will give the Geroge Herbert Walker, Jr. Lecture in International Studies,
co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Globalization and the MacMillan
Center for International and Area Studies. Dr. Brzezinski is currently with
the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington and holds
a chair at SAIS. He has written numerous books, including most recently
America and the World. He is seen frequently on television and in the
op-ed pages of major newspapers.

Admiral William Fallon
From Iraq to Afghanistan and Beyond: Security Challenges for the Obama Administration
Admiral William J. Fallon, formerly Commander of the U.S. Central Command
(CENTCOM), will speak about security challenges for the new administration.
During Admiral Fallon's tenure as CENTCOM commander, he was responsible
for U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and directed all U.S. military activities
in the Middle East, Central Asia and the Horn of Africa. He resigned his position
in March of 2008.

Gareth Evans
The Responsibility to Protect: Ending Mass Atrocity Crimes Once
and For All
Gareth Evans, the President of the International Crisis Group, will
speak on the responsibility to protect, a topic about which he has
written a new book. Formerly the Foreign Minister for Australia,
Mr. Evans assumed the presidency of the Crisis Group in 2000. The
Crisis Group is a global NGO working to prevent and resolve deadly
conflict. Mr. Evans' work on weapons of mass destruction is well-known,
and he recently was appointed co-chair of the International Commission
on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament. Free and open to the
public.

Martin Wolf
Fixing Global Finance
Martin Wolf, the Chief Economics Commentator and Associate Editor
for the Financial Times daily newspaper, will speak about Fixing
Global Finance, the subject of a new book that explains why global
imbalances cause financial crises, outlines the steps for ending
this destructive cycle, and describes what we can do to help ensure
global financial stability in the future. Mr. Wolf will be a Distinguished
Visiting Fellow of the Center while he is on campus. The talk is
free and open to the public.

Ernesto Zedillo participates in World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland
Ernesto Zedillo, the Director of the Center, joined hundreds of
world leaders participating in the World Economic Forum held in
Davos, Switzerland in late January. Dr. Zedillo participated in
five formal programs, including a panel addressing The Return of
State Power, along with the Minister of Finance for Egypt and the
Secretary-General of the OECD, among others. He also served as Chair
for a discussion on Latin America's Economic Imperative with Felipe
Calderon, President of Mexico and Alvaro Uribe, President of Colombia.
Dr. Zedillo is a member of the World Economic Forum Foundation Board,
the governing body of the organization.

Ernesto Zedillo appointed to Chair High Level Commission for the
Modernization of World Bank Group Governance
Ernesto Zedillo, Director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization,
has been asked to chair a High Level Commission to explore ways
in which the World Bank can operate more effectively, efficiently,
dynamically and legitimately in a transformed global political economy.
The Commission has begun its work and plans to issue its final report
at the IMF/World Bank meetings in the fall of 2009. Dr. Zedillo's
activities as Chair of the Commission will be an integral part of
the Center's work, helping to fulfill the aim to bridge the gap
between the worlds of academia and public policy and furthering
the Center's efforts to examine the impact of our increasingly integrated
world on individuals, communities, and nations.
